Gateway to Industry

Aerospace and Aviation

St Mary's College is the only all girls school in Queensland that is part of The Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools program (AGISP).

The AGISP was established to support the growth and development of an effective workforce for the aviation industry sector. This program provides opportunities for young people to undertake structured workplace learning, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, full-time employment and further study through industry-school partnerships. The program has proven essential in meeting the Queensland Government's aim of transitioning young people from school to work while completing school and gaining formal qualifications.

Under the agreement, St Mary's College offers a  Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). The agreement guarantees entry into a Bachelor of Aviation for graduates of the College who have completed the Certificate III in Aviation.


Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Option to study Assisting in Nursing AIN)

Health and Community Services training is linked to the largest growth industry in Australia estimated to grow by 20% over the next five years. In year 11 and 12 students have the oppportunity to study a Certificate II and III in Health Services. 

As a part of the Certificate III, students may choose to undertake the AIN. This program is in partnership with Connect ' n' Grow. Currently, students enrolled in this program undertake work experience with Villa Maria. 

​This program provides students with entry level skills neccesary for a career in the health sector and also provides a pathway to pursue future studies.


University Partnerships

St Mary's College has a Collaborative Agreement (Nursing) with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), giving students a direct pathway into a career in nursing.

Under the agreement, 20 eligible St Mary's Year 12 students have a guaranteed place in the USQ Bachelor of Nursing degree when they graduate high school. Interested students must submit a written application, and shortlisted students are then interviewed by a panel of USQ and St Mary's College representatives.

Students are assured a clinical placement in the Ipswich and West Moreton area in their first year of study with USQ.​


​STARS Mentoring Program​

STARS – Students, Teachers, Achieving, Reaching and Striving supports Year 11 & 12 students to successfully navigate the areas of study habits, study environments and study/life balance. The Academic Mentoring Program occurs from Term 1 to Term 3. Teachers and students work together to help students form goals that assist them to achieve their potential for their QCE and final​ results. This program helps students to understand their study strengths and weaknesses and improves their efficacy as students. Teachers aim to coach students to find ways to work smarter so that they utilise their study time at home and school to their advantage. The STARS program prioritises the intellectual wellbeing of each student and aids her to be a motivated learner.​


Beyond the Classroom – Extension and Enrichment

Diverse learning enrichment opportunities enhance our curriculum, including university short courses, vocational courses, school-based traineeships and national academic competitions. High achieving students are encouraged to pursue extension programs to ensure they remain challenged.

St Mary's College offers many opportunities for your daughter to extend herself beyond the classroom. Our sport, culture and mission programs encompass a range of activities to complement traditional modes of study. Participating in extra-curricular activities, students learn valuable life skills such as organisation, time management, team work and leadership as well as build their sense of confidence, belonging and community.

In line with helping each student achieve to her potential, our Learning Enrichment team work to identify and assist students in need of extra support. The Learning Enrichment Centre (LEC) staff work with students on a casual or ongoing basis helping students to understand a concept, begin or continue an assignment or prepare for exams. and to offer opportunities for extension. ​
